The National Crisis of Character and Evangelicalism's Ineptitude

Writing in 1998, David Wells speaks a word about evangelicalism's ineptitude that is still pertinent today:
The fact is that the enculturation of the evangelical world and its self-betrayal through its theologically emptied-out faith is the reason why the Church has no answer to the national crisis of character. It is also the reason why the postmodern world is not hearing, as it should, a Word from God.
—David Wells, Losing Our Virtue: Why the Church Must Recover Its Moral Vision (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1998), 1-2.
